The South Valley is a large, mostly unincorporated area along the Rio Grande south and west of downtown Albuquerque. It has deep roots, with families who have farmed along the acequias for generations, older adobe-style homes, larger lots and newer houses mixed in.

Like the North Valley, the South Valley sits close to the river, and ground moisture is the biggest enemy of stucco here. Irrigation, ditches and a high water table keep the soil damp, and walls that sit in or near that soil break down at the base.
